CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the iPhone Duo, its inaugural foldable iPhone model, with U.S. pricing beginning at $1,999. The company introduced the device on Sept. 9 at its Cupertino headquarters, with Apple CEO John Ternus presenting the latest addition to the company’s hardware lineup. Customers will be able to place preorders starting Oct. 16 across more than 70 countries and regions, and the first units are expected to arrive at stores and customers’ hands on Oct. 23.

Designed in a book-style form factor, the iPhone Duo features two Super Retina XDR displays. When closed, a 5.4-inch screen handles everyday phone functions. Opening the device reveals a 7.6-inch interior display, suitable for videos, apps, gaming, and multitasking. The device’s chassis is constructed from Grade 5 titanium, and its hinge incorporates over 100 components. Additionally, the phone has an IP68 certification for splash, water, and dust resistance.
Apple has tailored its mobile operating system to optimize the experience on the larger folding screen. The iPhone Duo will ship with iOS 27.1, which introduces features specifically designed for the new display format. Users can run two apps side-by-side and save preferred app pairings. When open, the phone can display two Home Screen pages simultaneously. Biometric authentication is available through Touch ID embedded in the side button, providing security whether the device is folded or unfolded.
Foldable display enhances multitasking and camera capabilities on the iPhone
Its rear camera setup includes a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera and a 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The main camera features an optical-quality 2x telephoto lens and zero shutter lag support. Previewing selfies taken with the rear camera is possible on the external screen prior to capture. Duo Preview allows subjects to see the framing while another user manages the camera. The main camera records 4K video at up to 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision.
Powering the foldable iPhone is Apple’s A20 Pro processor, complemented by a dual-battery system. A custom vapor chamber helps dissipate heat during intensive tasks. Apple estimates up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display, increasing to 44 hours with the outer screen. The device supports fast wired and wireless charging, along with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity options.
Pricing options and global release schedule span over 70 markets
The iPhone Duo will be available with storage capacities of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB, with color options including star white and night sky finishes. The starting price in the United States is $1,999, while in the UAE, it begins at AED 8,499. Preorders open one week before the release, with initial availability scheduled for Oct. 23. On Oct. 30, Apple plans to expand sales to an additional 28 countries and regions. Notably, this model will feature an eSIM-only design worldwide, eliminating physical SIM cards.
By introducing the iPhone Duo, Apple enters the established foldable smartphone arena with a unique hardware and software approach. Its innovative design combines a compact external screen with Apple’s largest display ever on an iPhone. The device integrates Apple’s processors, camera systems, connectivity technologies, and mobile operating system into the folding format. Customers can expect to receive the first units approximately six weeks after the September announcement. The October rollout signifies the commercial debut of Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
