STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – According to Statistics Sweden, the country’s industrial production experienced a decline of 1.5% in June compared to the same month last year. The seasonally adjusted output also decreased by 0.4% from May, indicating a softer month for Sweden’s manufacturing sector. The figures were disclosed in the June release of the Production Value Index. The industrial index registered at 112.4, down from 112.9 in May, with 2021 serving as the baseline of 100.

This yearly decrease followed a revised 7.6% rise in May. Manufacturing output fell 1.0% from June 2025, while mining and quarrying dropped 13.8%. On a month-to-month basis, manufacturing declined 0.4%, and mining and quarrying decreased by 3.3%. Industry made up 20.2% of the broader private-sector measure for 2025. Within this, manufacturing contributed 19.4 percentage points, making it the dominant segment of industry.
Despite the June decline, gains persisted throughout the second quarter. The average industrial production from April to June was 4.0% above the same period in 2025. Seasonally adjusted industrial output also rose 4.8% from the previous three months. Sweden’s overall private-sector output increased by 0.4% from May and 1.8% year-over-year. This wider measure encompasses industry, services, construction, and selected utility activities.
Industrial performance contrasts with overall growth in other sectors
Services sector output edged down 0.2% from May but grew 3.0% compared to June 2025. Construction output rose 2.0% month-on-month and 7.6% year-on-year. The services index stood at 111.9 in June, compared with 112.1 in May. Construction increased to 94.9 from 93.0. Services held a 67.2% share in the broader measure, while construction accounted for 8.4%.
Separate data for June from Statistics Sweden revealed total industrial orders surged 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. On a calendar-adjusted basis, orders rose 29.9% from June 2025. Export orders increased 56.5% month-over-month and 57.6% from a year earlier. Domestic orders saw a slight increase of 0.1% from May but declined 7.4% annually. From January to June, total orders were up 4.0% compared to the same period in 2025, with export orders climbing 6.6%.
Exports climb while domestic orders decline annually
Transport equipment experienced the highest growth among main order categories in June. Orders in this sector increased by 101.0% from May and 118.2% compared to the previous year. Manufacturing orders rose 33.2% for the month and 31.2% on an annual basis. Capital-goods orders expanded by 45.5% from May and 50.7% from June 2025. Conversely, mining and quarrying orders fell 1.8% monthly and 19.0% year-over-year.
The data releases for production and orders track different facets of industrial activity. The Production Value Index measures monthly changes in private-sector production of goods and services in constant prices. Meanwhile, the orders series monitors short-term fluctuations in new industrial orders across both domestic and export markets. The latest figures for June are preliminary and may be revised later. Upcoming releases are scheduled for Sept. 10 and will include data for July 2026.
