BRUSSELS, Belgium / EuroWire.IO / – European Commission has designated €3.4 billion to support 77 pioneering projects focused on net-zero solutions through the Innovation Fund. The results of the fund’s call for projects centered on net-zero technologies were revealed on October 19. The funds are derived from proceeds of the EU Emissions Trading System. The selected initiatives are distributed across 23 nations within the European Economic Area and cover a diverse array of clean industrial innovations.

The Commission projects that these initiatives could cut approximately 290 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent in their first ten years. That’s about one tonne avoided every second over a decade. The projects aim to enhance Europe’s industrial leadership and competitive edge in green technologies, as well as support energy independence and security. Contributing to the EU’s climate neutrality target by 2050, the funding underscores the bloc’s commitment to sustainable growth.
Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra remarked that these projects demonstrate European ingenuity turning climate ambitions into industrial leadership. He emphasized that reinvesting revenues from carbon markets helps companies accelerate the deployment of clean technologies. The call, launched in December 2025, drew 358 applications requesting €17.5 billion, surpassing the €2.9 billion available. All five categories of the call were heavily oversubscribed. The Innovation Fund stands as one of the globe’s largest funding schemes dedicated to innovative low-carbon technologies.
